Overview of the process:

Overview of the process:

Find out about the fund

One Kilburn is an alliance of local people, organisations, and businesses, working together to improve the quality of life of everyone in Kilburn. We encourage collaborative, community-led activities across Kilburn, whether in the boroughs of Brent, Camden or Westminster.

Local communities know their neighbourhood best, have exciting ideas and often lack the funding and support to make them happen.

One Kilburn is therefore providing up to £10,000 for a maximum of two projects that are created and delivered by local citizens. We are inviting proposals from local groups or organisations. This could include projects such as those focused on:

  • Art, craft and creative projects that celebrate Kilburn, its history, cultures and people

  • Markets and events

  • Greening and sustainability-focused activities

  • Community building, support or wellbeing activities – e.g. health, sport, learning, skills training

While you will be responsible for delivering your project, each applicant will have the opportunity to discuss and develop their ideas with support from local community mentors. A mentor can support you to develop your project ideas, identify your project budget or help with submitting your application.  If you would like a mentor, please contact onekilburn@camden.gov.uk

You can also attend an in-person workshop to learn more about the fund, seek support and workshop your project ideas!

All in person workshops will follow the same format agenda of presentation on the fund followed by 1:1 support. All venues are accessible.

To be seen as viable, project proposals must:

  • Align with One Kilburn’s mission and values to foster dialogue, engagement and collaboration between local people, and facilitate community-led initiatives and leadership.

  • Set out the project’s outputs and outcomes for local people and/or the Kilburn area

  • Outline opportunities to promote community leadership

  • Provide a proposed costed budget – e.g. materials, equipment, running costs

  • Provide a detailed delivery timetable

  • Demonstrate that the project is ready to start and be concluded within 6 months from the point at which funds are received

  • Demonstrate that the project / project process is community-led and has the support of Kilburn residents

  • Provide details of registered status of the applicant (i.e. whether individual or group are constituted / non-constituted / charity / etc.)

  • Not require significant levels of permissions such a from highway or local planning authority

  • Outline details of any support from Camden or other local organisations needed to enable the delivery of the proposed project

  • Be shared by groups that have, or that are willing to a have, a safeguarding policy and public liability insurance

  • Applications are open to all, including businesses, constituted and non-constituted groups (you can find out the difference here)

  • Non-constituted groups and individuals will need to partner with a constituted organisation with insurance cover and ability to receive funding. One Kilburn can support you with this process

  • Fundamental to the approach is ensuring that, whether the project proposal is from a local group or a large organisation, the proposal is community-led – meaning the proposal involves local people from the outset and delivers outcomes to benefit local people and businesses.

One Kilburn would like this application to be as open and easy as possible for applicants. That’s why we’ve created multiple ways to submit your application.

  • Digital - You can share your proposal via our One Kilburn website

  • Handwritten - You can collect a form from Kilburn Library (Camden) or at one of the in-person workshops. Once completed, you can also submit your proposal in person at Kilburn Library (Camden).

If you would prefer to submit your proposal by video or in a different format, please contact us at onekilburn@camden.gov.uk and we will work this out together!

If you want to discuss an idea, find out more about the application process or something else, we’re here to help!

One Kilburn is still work in progress. At this point in the One Kilburn journey, a question that the group are exploring is how One Kilburn can organise and become an active group that enables coordinated and collaborative community-led activity.

In response, we identified £10,000 to test and learn the process of developing and delivering a funding project with members of One Kilburn.

Members of One Kilburn have met regularly in person and online between May - September 2023 to develop the Community Fund opportunity.

One Kilburn would like this opportunity to:

  • Generate ideas from citizens from across the neighbourhood to develop more community-centric projects, opportunities and leadership development in Kilburn

  • Raise the profile of One Kilburn and build credibility of One Kilburn as a local partner

  • Encourage the Brent, Camden and Westminster local authorities to work collaboratively and see Kilburn as ‘one place’

  • Develop an approach to identifying and determining priorities to test neighbourhood level funding decision making

  • Help develop One Kilburn network

There is a lot of support available for residents and small organisations. You can be paired with a mentor from a local organisations to help brainstorm your project idea or work through the application form.

List of organisations as mentors: Kiln, SHAK, Global Skills Centre, Kilburn Job Hub, The Granville, Kilburn Neighbourhood Forum, Sidings Community Centre, Brent Hub, Middlesex University, Paprika Collective, Latin American House.

Our four workshops have now finished. If you have any questions about the fund or would like to be paired up with local mentor to help with your application, please contact us.

Once the project plan and budget are agreed and a funding agreement is signed, funding can be provided to get the project going.

Whilst you will be responsible for the delivery of your project, One Kilburn and the councils will be on hand to support the project every step of the way.

To ensure that this support can be provided, you will be required to share regular project progress updates with One Kilburn and the councils.
